Start here: get online, fully close and reopen the official app or ticket page, and let it finish loading. If a code still doesn't appear, it may be released closer to the event, hidden inside the app, a tap-to-enter wallet ticket, removed because the ticket was transferred or listed for resale, or replaced by a name/order-number check. Your confirmation email's entry instructions are the source of truth.
1. The barcode is released late
To limit screenshot resale, many issuers hold the barcode back until a few hours — sometimes the day — before the event. Until then the ticket shows "barcode available closer to the event" or similar. This is normal. Open the official app again near the start time and the code will appear.
2. It lives in the app, not the email
Your confirmation email is a receipt, not the ticket. The scannable code may only exist inside the issuer's app or your phone's wallet. Look for a "View ticket", "Open in app" or "Add to Apple/Google Wallet" button, install the app if prompted, and sign in with the same account you booked with.
3. There is no barcode by design
Some entries genuinely have no barcode. Instead they validate by:
- Name + order number checked at a box office or guest list.
- Photo ID matched to the booking (common for festivals and flights).
- A code you read out or a confirmation shown from your account page.
The confirmation email will say how entry works — read it before you travel.
4. It failed to load
A blank box where the code should be almost always means the app couldn't reach the server. Fixes, in order:
- Get a solid connection (Wi-Fi or data).
- Fully close the app and reopen it — don't just background it.
- Open the ticket so it downloads while you still have signal, then add it to your wallet for offline access.
- Update the app if it's out of date.
5. It's a tap-to-enter wallet ticket
If the ticket is in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and shows no barcode — or says something like "hold near reader" — it is probably an NFC tap-to-enter ticket. Instead of a code, the pass holds a secure credential that the turnstile reads by radio, like contactless payment. This is increasingly common at stadiums, arenas and large concerts.
- iPhone: open Wallet (or double-click the side button), select the ticket and hold the top of the phone near the reader.
- Android: make sure NFC is on, open the ticket in Google Wallet or the app, and tap the back of the phone to the reader.
- Some wallet passes add the barcode only shortly before the event; until then the pass looks blank. Reopen it on the day.

6. It was transferred, shared or listed for resale
Barcodes follow ownership. When a ticket moves, the old code is cancelled:
- You sent or shared the ticket (including before accepting it yourself): your copy loses its barcode; the recipient gets a fresh one after accepting.
- You listed it on a resale marketplace: the barcode is usually hidden while the listing is live. Remove the listing to get it back.
- Someone sent it to you: accept the transfer in the app first. A forwarded screenshot of their code won't work — it was cancelled when they sent it.
- You bought resale: the seller may deliver the ticket only shortly before the event. Your order shows the expected delivery date.
Ticketmaster, Live Nation & other ticket apps
Large ticketing platforms combine several of the reasons above, which is why "no barcode" is so common with them:
- Rotating codes are app-only. The live barcode (on Ticketmaster this is SafeTix) appears only inside the app or a wallet pass — never in the confirmation email — and a screenshot won't scan. See rotating barcodes.
- Delayed delivery. Organisers can delay the barcode until days or hours before doors. The ticket says when.
- Wrong account. If you have two accounts (or bought via a presale or fan club), the tickets appear only in the account that bought them.
- Wallet passes may be tap-to-enter (section 5) or may need re-adding after a ticket is re-issued.
- Can't find the tickets at all? Check the "My Events / My Tickets" section, sign out and back in, update the app, and make sure you're not looking at a past event.
The same applies to team apps, festival apps and venue apps built on these platforms. For error messages at the gate, see scan error messages.
Pre-gate checklist
- Official app installed and signed in to the booking account.
- Ticket opened and loaded before you lose signal.
- Static tickets added to Apple/Google Wallet for offline entry.
- Transfers accepted and resale listings removed for tickets you're using.
- Phone charged — wallet and app tickets die with the battery.
- Confirmation email and photo ID on hand as a fallback.
Getting in without a barcode
If the code never appears, most bookings can still be looked up at the box office using your name, order number and ID. Arrive early, bring your confirmation email, and contact the issuer in advance if you can — only the company that sold the ticket can re-issue or recover it. We're a reference site and can't access individual bookings.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my mobile ticket have no barcode?
Usually because the barcode is released closer to the event, lives only in the official app, is a tap-to-enter wallet ticket, was removed by a transfer or resale listing, or failed to load. Open the official app while online and check the entry instructions in your confirmation email.
Why do my tickets in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet have no barcode?
Many venues use tap-to-enter (NFC) wallet tickets: you hold the phone near the reader instead of scanning a code. Others add the barcode to the pass only shortly before the event.
Why are my Ticketmaster tickets not showing a barcode?
The rotating barcode is often hidden until closer to the event, appears only in the app (not emails or screenshots), and disappears while a ticket is listed for resale or being transferred. Sign in on the account that owns the tickets and check again nearer the date.
Why did my barcode disappear after I shared or listed my tickets?
Transferring cancels your barcode and issues a new one to the recipient once they accept. A resale listing usually hides the barcode until it's removed or sold.
I can't retrieve the barcode from my ticket — what should I do?
Get online, fully close and reopen the issuer's app or ticket page, and check your confirmation email for instructions. If it still doesn't appear, contact the issuer with your order number — only they can re-issue it.
Can I get into an event without a barcode?
Often, yes. Many bookings can be looked up at the box office using your name, order number and photo ID. Arrive early with your confirmation email.
